AI surveillance ethics and main issues

AI-powered surveillance systems use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms to analyse video and audio feed and other data sources to identify and track individuals, detect suspicious behaviour, and predict potential security threats.

These systems can be used in various settings, including public spaces, transportation systems, and private facilities. Integrated with technologies such as facial recognition, license plate recognition, and biometrics.

While AI can enhance security and improve public safety, they also raise significant ethical concerns related to privacy, bias, and potential misuse.

For example, monitor individuals without their knowledge or consent and perpetuate and amplify biases in the data they are trained on.

It is essential to have clear guidelines and regulations in place for developing and deploying AI surveillance systems and ongoing monitoring and oversight to ensure that they are being used ethically. Additionally, conducting regular testing and evaluations to ensure that the designs are accurate, unbiased, and fair.
