The physical security is facing a huge disruption

Digital transformation of physical security is still in its infancy in comparison to other industries. As tools become more sophisticated and readily available, security organisations must adopt new practices and capabilities.

Failure to transform will increase the likelihood of becoming a target. Over the next 3-5 years, top investments are big data and analytics, cloud computing, storage, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The future of physical security with digital transformation will be drastically different from physical security today. Cloud computing, AI and IOT are blurring the line between logical and physical environments.

In one of my previous post’s, I talked about how some operators are reluctant to adopt digital service’s. For example, the video surveillance storage in the Middle East is by far stipulated to be stored locally and offsite for disaster recovery with limited access. The exponential growth of cloud services is also rapidly changing the physical security landscape. However, the regulators perhaps linger behind. This leaves gaps during the implementation stage where the operator is keen to adopt the available processes and technology; however, the regulator can be inflexible.

In terms of the practical implementation, especially on large scale projects, this is often down to Security Consultant or Project Management Controller to bridge the gap and ensure the most suitable processes and technologies are employed within the commercial contains.

So, the digital transformation is not about the move to the cloud but about understanding the complete project life cycle aligning the process and managing the change. For example, the client would prefer to have a dynamic security risks assessment system to provide a data-driven outcome. The design will be driven by the countermeasures established during this stage. The cost impact is clear and justified, eliminating any doubts.

The key to successful transformation is

· the tough leadership

· clear strategy

· on-going innovation and research

· training
